Mobile Movement has initiated a scheme where, working with international and local agencies groups of young entrepreneurs in some the world’s most deprived city areas are receiving microfinance and mentoring from donors via their mobile phone.

UN-HABITAT (United Nations agency for human settlements http://www.unhabitat.org/) , Microsoft Research India, the Environmental Youth Alliance and the MacArthurFoundation are working together to initiate and help grow this program. To date, fifteen youth groups in Nairobi’s slum areas have been equipped with mobile phones and projects such as a tailoring school an urban agricultural farm have been established with more to come. One of the success stories is where a prominent New Your jewellery designer, Olia Gitman is working with the Victorious Youth Group, bone craft designers from the Kibera slum to produce new designs and expand their market. Learn more……
